I have no idea why they call it social bookmarking since it’s a method by which you add bookmarks to an account that you have created to read at your leisure. I suppose it may be because you can share the bookmarks with others in your network by use of e-mail, Twitter, yadda, yadda, or you can work on a project together, but couldn’t they have come up with a more accurate, descriptive name of the process? Personally, I like “keeping up with what everyone else is doing”. Yes, it’s a little cumbersome, but we can work on it. 😉
However, since I paid for this knowledge, I find I need to give it a go! So, per the assignment I tried:
Then I tried:
The assignment was to create the accounts, then add a number of sites to your accounts. Add tags, descriptive titles, basically, just play with them. I did that. It was OK. It was a couple of weeks ago now, and I haven’t touched them since. As a matter of fact, I removed the Diigo tool bar because I found that it was slowing my computer down. I think I may be getting skeptical regarding the usefulness of all these tools, but I know I am harder to impress and suffering from information overload. Any new tool has to prove itself really, REALLY useful, for my purposes, in order for me to add it to my “must use” list. These social bookmarking tools just didn’t make the cut. They are nice, but you may find them more useful than I do.
